It’s not Bronx sized, but it’s one of the biggest in Queens. They aren’t overcompensating for anything though because their slice is outstanding. It’s cheesy and greasy and saucy and fluffy and everything else you could hope for when you pop in for a slice or more.

The sauce essentially is tomato and cheese and grease blended together. Usually this sucks, but here it’s the exception. Spots of herbs transcends this past neighborhood slice. It’s a hard crust, with some great flavor collecting at the bottom. Above that crunch layer, is a nice spot of fluffy dough and then more strong flavors again.

Does this area of the pizza have a name yet? You know, the underbelly, the dough that is sometimes exposed when the cheese flies away. Sometimes the cheese sticks to it and other times it flies off. It gets wet and bubbly, and there’s definitely something here worth studying.

For their specialty slices, they give it a good sesame crust. It doesn’t seem gimmicky with them. It looks like they know what they are doing. And since they are in business since 1959, I would hope they do. Valentino’s isn’t a life changer. No, not like Amore or Keste, but it is a top-tier slice.

  1. This is right by my place! I always take local joints like this for granted. Btw, let me know when you’ve tried Wafa’s. I really want to go, but it’s out of the way for me.
